Launching A Book (Would Be Much Easier If All You Had To Do Was Smash Champagne)

October 23, 2018 by andyadmin Leave a Comment

Well it’s been three weeks since I launched book number 3.

Well, when I say launch… It depends who you’re talking to. Normal people think of a book launch as free drinks at a bookstore, and an author caught in the spotlight. Indies (what self published authors like me call ourselves) think of a launch as finally getting the thing finished and on sale. Pressing the go button on Kindle, Kobo, Nook, iBooks, Google Play, and all the other online retailers with stupid names. And even stupider publishing interfaces. And then there are the print-on-demand paperbacks through Ingram Spark. Another daft name, another infuriating website.

Then, Ping! There it is, all shiny and full of expectation, floating in the void of the interwebs: the culmination of two years of anxiety and exhilaration.

From worrying about if there was actually a story there, and will anyone care, suddenly you go, “Look at that, I made it. And it looks all right, doesn’t it? Doesn’t it? Snazzy cover, hey? Hello?”

And then it’s pretty much all graphs and tables. Sales trickles versus torrents of advertising expenses.

And questions: Where is everybody? Where are all the reviews? Come on, it’s been three days; plenty of time, surely. What does CTR mean again? ROI? Read through? And what time is it in America? Why do they always have to be a day behind?

Help.

Then some reviews appear. Two. Three. How many ARCs did I send out?

A couple of five-stars, though.

Woohoo.

Better than a poke in the eye.

What next? Should have a party. After all it’s been two years, should have a bunch of parties. I mean launches.

Anyone looking for Christmas-present ideas?

Left Luggage – Free for five days

May 18, 2015 by Andrew Christie Leave a Comment

Coinciding somewhat coincidentally with the Sydney Writers Festival, the Kindle version Left Luggage is free on Amazon for the next 5 days.

I’m giving it away in the hope of garnering a few more reviews, so pick up a copy and see if you like it.

The next book is on the way, and it is a sequel with John Lawrence and Billy Sheehan featuring again. It’s taking longer to write than I anticipated but I’ll let you know when it starts to get imminent.

Best. Present. Ever.

Some excellent but tiny additions to the library. I’m going to have to build a suitable bookcase – 2 paddle pop sticks should do it I reckon.

Thanks to the bros-in-law Jim and Matt.

Left Luggage going cheap!

December 4, 2014 by Andrew Christie Leave a Comment

If you are in the US the Kindle version of Left Luggage is currently going cheap: US$0.99 – down from the ridiculously over-priced US$2.99 – until the 6th of December. Get it before the digits run out.

I think this kind of promotion only works with the US Amazon site and only if you are accessing the site from the US for some reason – at least I assume that is why it shows up at the regular price on my browser. Let me know if you can see the US$0.99 price from wherever you are. It would be interesting to understand how all this Amazon stuff works.

Left Luggage gets launched

November 23, 2014 by Andrew Christie Leave a Comment

We had the book launch for Left Luggage on Saturday and it was a blast. I hope everyone who came enjoyed it as much as Strop and I did.

For those of you who couldn’t make here is a video of the official part of proceedings including a book reading where I am upstaged by my nephews.

Left Luggage is now available for Kindle. A proper paperback is also available through Amazon, The Book Depository, Barnes and Noble – they’ll print you one or three “on demand” – really it is a proper thing. If you are in the Inner West you may be able to persuade your local book store to get some in if you ask them nicely and persistently.

Four stars for Left Luggage on Amazon

October 2, 2014 by Andrew Christie Leave a Comment

Admittedly is only one review, but hey…

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Characters that I cared about, a complex and multi-layered plot, some completely unexpected developments along the way. I hope it’s the first of a series, I’d love to know what’s next for John Lawrence (and Billy…) If you enjoy a good crime story with a flawed and believable protagonist, lots of interesting minor characters, and chock full of inner Western Sydney landmarks, do yourself a favour and add this to your kindle (or bookshelf) now!
